Because of the quality & the method by which they are made, they have proved themselves to be worthy of their place in the world's top arenas and they are used by the best performers and event arrangers. Very very absorbent Magnesium Carbonate flakes in Block form, dry up moisture and hold to the guards. They offer superb grip and are recommended for use with all guards we supply.
"Gosh, isn't it much more expensive than it used to be?" See bottom paragraph for latest pricing news.
"But I can buy cheaper chalk from this friend I know...."
Let's not mess with this issue - I would suggest you save money somewhere else rather than in the area of children's safety, but then I would say that wouldn't I, I have an interest in selling you my "expensive" Italian Grippy Blocks....
Let's consider the true (perhaps not obvious) cost of a pure quality Italian Pharmaceutically manufactured Magnesium Carbonate Block compared to other chalk you can acquire:-
Over our 30 years selling gym chalk, we have looked at every manufacturer of "Chalk Blocks" around the world.
We have sent every one to the labs in Italy to see what they consisted of. Some are quite good quality, some are not, some had high arsenic levels (honestly) and all had purity issues of some sort or another. They did not have the correct feel and properties for Gymnastic use and being from sources no more specific than "Made in Taiwan" or "Made in the USA" (actually brought into the USA from China or Taiwan and then shipped out again).
We have also carefully tested some in the gym and found them to be lacking further in some way or other.
Mostly it's not liked by the gymnasts because the feel is harsh, gritty or does not "stick".
Or the coach doesn't like it because the blocks are so delicate they break up easily and carry absolutely no safety grading, product specification or quality certification, so leaving them as the person responsible for the Health and Safety, open to challenge.
Coaches are aware that gymnasts breathing in unknown impure dusty chalk-like substances can react with short term breathing problems. Other gymnasts with rips and cuts are absorbing any impurities directly into their wounds. Allergies and skin exema are a further consideration.
Sports centres eventually discover that the cheaper chalk is very light and creates a severe dust which translates into additional cleaning expense, ventilation system maintenance etc, which must be carried out as the dust may contain its own contaminates.
With Grippy Blocks, event organisers welcome their use. Correctly used, they help to reduce the amount of dust in the air and are easier to distribute amongst the gymnasts. With a dusty material, it is reassuring to know it is from a recognised safe source and that duty of care is fully satisfied.
So, rest assured that even though it is quite easy to obtain cheaper "similar" chalk blocks, Grippy has the official International health analysis required. It has the Safety Data Sheet that ensures you comply with your Health & Safety obligations.
Please do not be misled into thinking all white powdered materials are the same! No matter what a keen salesman says.
Now might be an opportune time to ensure Grippy Blocks are not being wasted & crumbled and that every gymnast pays for and looks after their own block.
Some clubs buy cheap chalk and having then saved money on the deal, discover that the gymnasts won't use it. The club treasurer won't buy Grippy Chalk as a replacement as they still have to use up the cheap stuff. The original friend won't take it back, so it gets to be an issue....
In the past we have tried to help out these clubs but can't nowadays .... our experience has taught us to no longer do "deals" involving "swapping & disposal" of unwanted inferior unwanted chalk products. We are unable to get the disposal certification required as these unwanted products are often from unknown origin. Being white and chalky does not qualify as Pure Magnesium Carbonate and nowadays you cannot just dump unwanted chemicals without informing the authorities what it is exactly.
This is what one customer said when we emailed her the news about the price increase:-
" Many thanks for your reply. I will order but when I really do need some rather than now as a just in case :-) I have seen other gyms using other brands of chalk and they all come back with the same comment "crap" Grippy really is the best.
Best regards
Jane
Note:- To international customers, Grippy Chalk is an item we are unable to ship outside of the UK.
There are official distributors for the USA. Please contact us and we will forward your enquiry.
Pricing News:- Our bulk buying means the prices for grippy Blocks is now lower.
Please note... If ordering individual blocks, more than 1 block will need you to choose from the drop down. We do not sell 4-7 blocks singly, it is a better deal to order a pack of 8.
